after market radio wiring help
hey guys, a buddy of mine gave me his old alpine cda 9815 to replace the factory radio in my '99 civic lx sedan. i got the appropriate civic wiring harness and proceeded to splice the wires to the alpine's wire harness.
i matched up all the colors and ended up with some left over wires that didnt connect to anything. one was pink and the other was blue w/ white stripe.
i hooked it up and the HU powered up but there was no sound from the speakers. can somebody please tell me what i did wrong?
Edit: i also have the blue power antenna wire left over. my car doesnt have a power antenna so i left that one loose

Re: after market radio wiring help
ok, so i figured out that the problem isnt with wire harnesses but with the speaker wires themselves. i took out my front left speaker and ran an audio cable from the speaker straight to head unit and all of a sudden the front two speaker started working. the rear speakers remained quiet.
does that indicate a short somewhere in the wires? if it is, is there anyway to narrow down which speaker wire it is (without the use of a multi-meter)? i'm under the impression they are wired like christmas lights where one goes out they all go out.
sorry for sounding like a complete noob, this is my first time doing this. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: after market radio wiring help
did you look at the alpine manual (its online at alpine1.com) to figure out what the wire colors are for the deck? because just matching the colors will cause big problems. if you wired it properly and they still dont work it may be a bad speaker wire, but only if the speakers werent working when you had the stock deck. oh and the only wires you dont have to use are illumination and dimmer. the power antenna still needs to be connected because in many cases it improves radio reception (even if your car does not have power antenna).
Re: after market radio wiring help
thanks for the tip guys. the guy that i got the radio from told me to just connect the matching colors "because the colors are standardized". i'll check out the site for the manual's wiring diagrams.
thanks again
thanks again
