Oil Pan and Gasket Replacement

I'm driving a manual transmission 2000 LX. I'm in the process of ordering parts to replace a leaky oil pan. Just want to make sure the gasket is compatible with the oil pan. Thanks

I don't see why they wouldn't be. They say they match.

Re: Oil Pan and Gasket Replacement

OP: you may want to strongly consider a Honda genuine gasket. Other brand gaskets may not fit as well or have the same spec thickness.

Pan gasket replacement is a bit time consuming (unless you're Ezone or another Honda mechanic) and if not done correctly will develop another leak. Also, the service manual shows the locations to add Hondabond (RTV sealant), bolt pattern and torque specs. Calls for use of an inch/pound torque wrench.

Make absolutely sure both mating surfaces (pan and block) are free of debris before installing the new gasket.

Also, possible for a pan to bent out of place (struck by object or incorrect prior install) that causes leaking that a new gasket may not fix.

Re: Oil Pan and Gasket Replacement

I changed my oil pan gasket in 2014. You have to drop the front exhaust pipe in order to get clearance to drop the pan. In my case there were 3 studs on the manifold-converter, and I was able to remove the 3 nuts that hold that joint together. Be careful with these! If you break the stud you'll have to deal with getting them out!

At the rear end of the pipe it was a standard pair of bolts-springs. Those were unrecognizable blobs of rust so I just cut those off and replaced with new bolts-springs. New gaskets at both ends.

+1 to all the above advice, especially about the Hondabond/RTV. The crankshaft bearing housing protrudes into the oil pan, and the gasket shape follows that but it can't seal the sharp corners which is where you need the extra sealant.

If you're doing the oil pan gasket there's a good chance your valve cover gasket is leaking too, worth checking it out.

Agreed on the Honda gasket. I just did mine a couple of days ago when I was changing my rod and main bearings and used a felpro... I'll be doing the oil pan gasket again in a few days when the new one comes in. It was like the felpro was almost to small.

I initially used a Felpro on my previous 6th gen. Felpro claims that there is no need to use RTV sealant with their Perma-Dry gaskets. So, prior to installing it I called Felpro tech support and asked them if this is the case. The tech I spoke to verified that their gaskets are to be installed dry without any sealant in the corners (per service manual). Guess where their gasket leaked? Yep, the corners that called for sealant. Felpro refunded my purchase. A few months later I replaced it with a Honda genuine gasket, used Hondabond where noted in service manual and it didn't leak afterwards.

I'm not bashing Felpro as generally their products are very good aftermarket substitutes. However, not as good as Honda OE/OEM.

Re: Oil Pan and Gasket Replacement

Oh yeah I agree, I usually have awesome luck with felpro .this one though didn't want to fit in the groove in the pan. I could get it in the grooves going around the pan but it wouldn't reach were the pan dips down for the mains .
