george mitchell
I have just replaced my rear drum brakes on my Honda civic 2000. I have adjusted the star-wheel adjuster all the way in . I am having problems getting my brake drums to go back on the new shoes ? could the parking brake adjustment have anything to do with this ? I have removed some brake fluid from the master cylinder and the cover is off .any suggestions would be appreciated .thank you .gm

Make sure wheel cylinder pistons are not stuck, both need to be able to move
handbrake must be completely released
ALL parts must be correctly assembled. (This is why you should only do one side at a time, so you have a correctly assembled set to compare with)
sometimes you have to manipulate the shoes up and down to fit inside the drum, if one or the other is just a little high or low, the drum won't go on.
Once in a while, the aftermarket can really shoot you in the foot....
compare sizes with the old shoes, maybe they are too big.

Have done all you suggested . Was a mechanic for a lot of years and have not had a problem with shoes except on my civic 2000 .rear drum brakes .may just have to sand dow edges of shoes to get 'em to fit . Thanks for your help ,i've just never run into this except on my civic .i appreciate your time and recomendations .should have just gone "oe" but trying to save a buck ,when will i ever learn .lol

Re: george mitchell
Did you get the long fork on the self adjuster flipped upside down? (IDK if it's possible, just guessing)
The cutout where it slips into the handbrake lever isn't equal.
