Rep Power: 167 How to repair heater control cable.
2000 Civic hatchback.
The cable loop end broke off, but does move in and out when temperature is selected.
There's heat as well, when valve is open.
What is the procedure to replace the cable, or is it easier to solder a new end on.
Thanks for any info on this!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: How to repair heater control cable.
I would replace it.
Kinda like unclip both ends and slide it out (IIRC pull it from under the dash).
Reinstall in reverse order of disassembly.
Adjust for proper movement.
Set the controls to cold and clip the cable in to the linkage on the dash side, then go to the water valve--move lever to fully closed position and install the cable. Then test movement of the valve lever when you set to full hot.

Oh, sounds pretty easy then. I'll check with the dealer for the right part and replace.
Thanks again for the help!

It's easy if you are young and flexible. I'm getting old and fat, it's a PITA for me to be crawling up under dashboards these days!

Ezone is right, if you are young and energetic do it yourself. Otherwise, if not willing to crawl under the dashboard, let someone else do it.

OK, I took a look under the dash and could not locate the cable at all!!
Is there a repair guide on how to exactly change the cable?
Do I need to remove dashboard components to access it?

Re: How to repair heater control cable.
The cable is attached to the air-mix control linkages on the bottom of the heater case.
IIRC you have to be on the passengers side floor, looking at the heater case between the hump on the floor and the bottom of the heater housing.
IDK if you have to remove any panels or anything for access.
It will be attached to the linkage operated by the air-mix control motor
Hope this works, I couldn't hotlink these here:

This said it's a 96 Civic heater box, you can see the cable in this bottom view of it

Ya, OK I saw those arms..LOL
IDK how there's any possible way to do work around there, but I'll try and report back.
There's some cover above the hump on the floor that I think needs to be removed to gain a bit of access to the arms. I'll see again tomorrow.
Thanks for the pics though!

I don't care how young and flexible you are. There's no changing that cable from just the passenger side floor. LOL
You can barely even see the cable, let alone unclip it or push it through the grommet.
Some serious stuff need to come out to do the job I think.

Can you see it from the drivers side?
I wrote IIRC earlier, meaning "If I Remember Correctly", which is sometimes 'not so much'. It's been quite a while since those cars frequented the dealer shop.

Get this, I called Honda, and they quoted 3 hours to change the $4 cable..lol
There's definitely more involved unfortunately.

Re: How to repair heater control cable.
3 hours is a bit extreme IMO.

Re: How to repair heater control cable.
Is there a way to zoom in on where the cable connects? I replaced my heater core and wonder if I should have connected this before bolting in the heater assembly and the dash.
I don't want to take them back out!
I keep squeezing down there and poking around with a flashlight, trying to get video on my phone, etc.
I should just be able to attach the cable, reinstall the battery, and drive to have the AC recharged, but what is the point if I need to redo everything because the cable isn't connected correctly?
