98' ex d16y8 swap to 99' d16y8 issue
98' ex d16y8 swap to 99' d16y8 issue
I pulled a d16y8 with a bad bottom end out of my cousin's 1998 ex and put in a 1999 ex d16y8 and ran the 98' harness/ecu and used a distributor jumper since I'm running the 99' distributor that came on the 99' d16y8. Everything lined up/plugged up great, problem now motor cranks over but will not start. Alternator tested good, battery is good, starter is good, new spark plugs what am I missing? Should I have run the 99' harness and ecu instead?

Re: 98' ex d16y8 swap to 99' d16y8 issue
Did the used engine actually run before you got it? Did you hear it run?
Use the original parts from the car (98?) distributor if there is any question.
And how do you KNOW the injectors actually work? I have had issues with used (junkyard) engines that sat so long the injectors gummed up and couldn't squirt fuel anymore. Put in the 98 injectors if you think that might be an issue.
I might have stripped them both down to block/head/manifolds and exchanged all the sensors/injectors/ignition. IOW, replace the bare engine and only the bare engine.
Ground cables?
Ground wires on the thermostat housing?

Re: 98' ex d16y8 swap to 99' d16y8 issue
The motor does run and I did switch out the injectors thinking it was the issue of not getting fuel but still somethings not adding up. I should of done like what you said and seperated the entire motor for a good look over the block and head before I put it in but this was just supposed to be a budget build now I'm hoping I don't regret not doing it. Thanks for your input I'll have to double check everything again hopefully just something minor. Thanks again
