starting issue

hey im brand new to this forum I've had my 1998 civic LX for over a year now never had any problems with it till my clutch started going out at the end of January so I stopped driving it and starting driving my accord wanted to wait for the weather to get nicer before I start to replace the clutch in the civic, Anyway the last time I started it was the beginning of march so like 6 or 7 weeks when I went so try to fire it up 2 weeks ago it wouldn't start it had spark but it was week so I did a little tune up got new NGK plugs, wires and got a new distributor cap an rotor button, o an new battery . Plugs had fuel on them when I changed them so now im trying to test fuel pressure?

Does anybody know what the fuel pressure should be while key is ON but engine is OFF and what it should go to while cranking? on a 1998 Honda civic LX 1.6L

any help would be appreciated

Re: starting issue

Welcome!

If you have wet plugs, fuel pressure probably isn't the problem.

spark but it was week
At the plug wire ends: Will the spark jump about a 1/2 inch gap? It needs to be able to jump at least that far.

Plugs had fuel on them when I changed them
My guess: Flooded and lost compression.

Dry the plugs,
disable spark and fuel
crank the engine with the plugs out (to blow out excess gasoline)
then add a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder, (to restore oil to the rings)
crank it again, (to blow out any excess oil)
then reinstall the plugs and reconnect the distributor and injectors.

Crank it. If it fires and runs, then great. Move it outside, it will smoke. Drive it!!!! Or at least let it get up to operating temperature before you shut it off.

If it only tries to fire, then hold the gas pedal to the floor while cranking, this shuts off the fuel injectors. You can control fuel injecting (on or off) with the gas pedal while operating the starter. If you do it right and there are no other problems, you can get it to run this way.

Re: starting issue

Hey. Srry in advance if Im posting in the wrong place or w/e. But im having a serious issue with my civic. I had bought a 1998 civic with no engine and ordered a used one from quebec. The issue is, when I bought the car the previous owner thought they were putting a vtech in it and they cut the wire harness.(i know its just a clip how lazy do yu have to be.) But anyway i didnt want to spend big money on a harness so I used one out of a 1999. I installed the harness the engine and even switched out the computer and distributor. I went to start it and it turns over with no fire. I followed it back to the distributor (inside) and still couldnt find any power. If theres no power going to the distributor where would I go from there? Im no expert on civics or even in mechanics but a basic stock engine swap shouldnt be this big of an issue. I dont know what im missing but ive had the car for some time and its gunna end up being to far gone if i dont get it going soon. Any help or thoughts would help me greatly.
