Rep Power: 0 Alternator/SP Sensor fuse blows (7.5A)
Hello everyone, I am driving a 98 Honda civic 3Dr. To start with the alternator is rather new and the o2 sensors have just been replaced. The speedometer does not work and it has been proven that it is a bad instrument cluster. When there is load on the engine the alternator/SP Sensor fuse blows out and the car begins to die. When the fuse blows we get multiple codes: p1298 (elc circuit high input), p0135, P0141 (02 sensor heater circuit banks 1 and 2). When we first got the car we replaced this fuse and it didn't blow for a few months. Now it blows whenever you start driving it.
Any ideas people?
Can I use a 10A fuse instead of 7.5A?
How to trial test this type of problem?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Ok, before I check the harness. I unplugged the alternator and now the fuse doesn't blow. In everyone's opinion is the underlying cause a short in the alternator or a short In the wires connecting the alternator to the car? Should I replace the alternator to rule the wires out?

Could be the alternator, sure (but IMO that's pretty rare)....But when you disconnected it you also could have jostled the wire harness just enough to temporarily stop the short to ground where the harness rubs through on the bracket (as described in the bulletin).
How about leave the alt disconnected,
use a good fuse,
then wiggle the wiring harness all through the area the bulletin talks about,
see if the fuse blows.
If it blows, then its the wiring problem.
If not, then plug in the alt and see if it blows.

You Sir where right on the money. The diagram helped a lot. I found a bare wire and am currently in the process of repairing it. Thank you!
