1999 EX Lock Questions

For the most part, I think it's probably not the actuator, I can hear some mechanical workings in the top left end of the door. My driver's side door won't lock/unlock with the lock switch located on the driver's side, nor will any of the locks react with the keyless entry remote. I was wondering where the rods were located so I could check the connection, also, if I can hear the mechanical workings of the lock responding to the lock switch, should I bother checking the fuses? Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: 1999 EX Lock Questions

Do you mean you can hear the power lock actuators TRYING to operate?
If so, then I'd suspect weak actuator motors.

Re: 1999 EX Lock Questions

Does it work manually with the key? it doesn't have to be the actuator, the rod for the manual unlock is separate than those electronic. just take of the door panel and check the locking mechanism and see if the tab that connects the actuator rod to the unlocking mechanism is broken. Other than that it could be the fuse or the relay which is a blue box located on the right upper part of the door under the door panel. Can just use a voltmeter to test it.

Yes it opens manually with the key, and yes I can hear the actuator trying to work, do I need to replace the actuator in order to fix a weak motor? I'll be sure to check the fuse and tabs. Thanks for the help.

Re: 1999 EX Lock Questions

If an actuator/motor assembly is merely weak, then yes you replace the actuator.

And they do tend get weak as they age.

The actuator attaches to and hangs below the door latch. (The latch has to come out to replace the actuator.)

You can remove the door panel, get the wiring for the actuator (use a wiring diagram to find the right ones!), test for power and ground while attempting to operate the power locks. If there is both power and ground while trying to operate it, then I'd reason that the actuator must be bad.

Thanks ezone, I'll be sure to get in there as soon as I have some time. Thanks again for the help.
