Auto tranny help
Auto tranny help
Ok well i just put another transmission in my car, I have a 1996 ex automatic. it leaked a lil fluid out the first time i started it up (where the transmission lines come out to go to the radiator) wasnt snugged up enough, no big deal. tighten it up and i took it on several test runs around the neighborhood and transmission was fine, went to take it out on the street to the auto parts store cause i do have a check engine light but i think thats is just an 02 sensor. anyways i pull out the neighborhood and it loses power about a mile , i could feel it losing power so i pulled into a lot before i was pushing it. let it sit, start it up, transmission stops working when it warms up.walked back to the house and there was a trail of transmission fluid where i turned down the street, i did put more fluid in there before i left, but i thought i had it at the mark, i put in more to compensate for what leaked out the first time i started it,i tried to make it back to the house a couple days later early sun morning when there is little traffic and i filled it up to the dipstick mark with fluid because it was too low from when it leaked. I made it half way back to the house, i left it and came back. after letting it sit i could get power around. later in the day driving my truck back from the store taking the same path i took the civic home on i noticed a trail of fluid everywhere i turned. i have to car jacked up on the front wheels, i took the wheels off, i put more tranny fluid in it and put it in drive and gave it gas and turned the steering whee left to right and back trying to make it leak out but i couldnt get any to come out. it will have power and lose it after a min and wont come back till you let it sit. i thoughtmaybe the radiator was clogged, i blew it out the best i could when i did the tranny swap. i took a piece of 3/8 ince clear poly tube so i could watch to see if the fluid is flowing and it appeared not to be , a very lil bit made it into there.i did a stall test for the torque converter and it doesnt hold anywhere. though i couldnt make it leak when i tried , upon further inspection the driver side axle seal looks bad, i got another one but havent installed it yet, my question is could just that axle seal be causing all these problems? i plan on draining the fluid, putting new axle seals, testing and cleaning all the screens out on the solenoids, i also have new solenoids off my old transmission if any are bad but i dont suspect this as it was working well before. i was going to order a new torque converter and seal and pull it back off again but i thought i would see if i could get some insight from someone who knows alot more about this than me before i just go buying part after part blindly with no result. any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you
that looks like a f*cked up situation you had there... didnt you check the transmission housing for leaks from gaskets and covers? or any vacuum leaks up until the axles?and the the oil seal might be busted as well... you installed another tranny and i guess it was not compatible... you should've used the original one instead...
