New Transmission, Can't get key out!
Hey guys,
I have a 1997 LX (auto) with only 80,000 miles. I recently experienced some transmission issues and was forced to do a rebuild. I intend to keep my car so I sourced out the BEST shop in town to do the rebuild.
Following the rebuild I drove home and couldn't get my key out of the ignition. Pretty simple "fix": turn the key half way, put it back into gear, back into park, turn and remove the key. I was hoping it was a one-time thing, but it happened about 50% of the time I parked. I brought it back and the shop adjusted the linkages which made some improvements, but the key continued to get stuck.
I brought it back again and they replaced the shifter console assembly on the off chance the car wasn't registering into park - This was surprising to me because it isn't part of the "transmission" and this problem didn't exist pre-rebuild. That made NO diference and I was forced to call them back...
Now they want to replace the ignition lock, again, nothing to do with the transmission. Of course its "possible" this is a new problem, but it's seems odd to me that its onset was immediately after the rebuild.
Could it still be the linkages? could it be anything else "transmission" related or am I being a pain in the *** since I'm the one with the old car that's acting up?
Thanks for your opinion!!

Ezone....
Thank you so much for the info! I passed it along to my transmission tech and the problem is no more (so far haha). Hopefully that's all it was, but I'm sure I'll know one way or the other by the end of the weekend!
FYI: After 1 week the problem has not come back!! Thanks for the easy fix!
