Heater only blows through one vent?
Heater only blows through one vent?
I have a 1998 civic dx. Its gotten cold and in the morning when I start it up and get the heater going it fogs up. I tried to turn on the defroster but nothing comes out. my rear defroster works fine. I realized the heater and air conditioner work fine on all levels just it only goes through the chest vent (ones on dash).
when i switch to the other one it makes no noise and the light comes on like it changed but still only comes out from chest vents.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? or has anyone had this problem?

Re: Heater only blows through one vent?
The a/c kicks on in defrost mode to dehumidify the air. Most cars do that by default. Have you ensured all your connections are fine in the climate control switch?
Re: Heater only blows through one vent?
Well I have not taken the climate control out yet. but have done some researching and found the switch/gear type thing that when heater is turned on if you try and move it you can tell that the air is starting to come from the floor vents. I have noticed when you press the button it doesn't move the switch/gear thing at all. which I am pretty sure it is suppose to? Ill post picture.
Re: Heater only blows through one vent?
Yeah. It's suppose to move. I know I had an issue with my switch, but it dealt with the fan not working on higher speeds. Have you made sure everything is still on there? I know the blend door arm for the Accords had an issue where the wire would come off and you had to use a piece of vacuum line to keep it on. Different issue, but sometimes the smallest things cause the biggest headaches.
Re: Heater only blows through one vent?
It seems to me as if everything is still conected, atleast from what I can see. I guess ill have to take the climate control panel out. but wont be able to do that until the weekend since I have school during the week. But if you notice that bar on the right side in the picture its attached to that black thing which seems to be a solenoid or moter type thing of some sort. not quite sure what it is. but could that maybe be my problem? do the 98 civics have that type of workings in them?
