Hey all:

It's a 1998 Civic with 243,000 miles on it. Standard transmission: original clutch. No major engine mods or anything, just a stock engine and parts. It just passed inspection last week. It was driving fine 3 days ago after a 360 mile round trip.

It started up fine, but when I put it in gear and started driving, I noticed a strange vibration, sort of a shuddering. Check engine light flashed then came on. I circled the block and parked it again.

I checked the oil, not bad. The engine itself idles fine and does not create the issue. Only when in motion and giving it gas.

So, does this seem like the clutch has finally had enough? I also will need a new timing belt in about 7000 miles, so that is my other thought. It is raining today, so not sure if high humidity or water could be effecting it, causing it to slip.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think the best thing to do is read the code it's throwing out at you.

BTW, 243K miles and your engine is now giving you problems? Man, I hope my '98 LX does the same thing when I reach that many miles. I still have 80K miles to go.
