power window failure

Hey, My drivers side window isn't seated in the groove properly when the window is raised. Today, it made a loud grinding noise when raised. I was able to help the window up by hand.

Is this a failed power window motor?

Re: power window failure

If it's the motor it would struggle to raise and lower, not pop out of the groove. More than likely the the bearings in the regulator (window track) have gone bad. Pull the inner door panel and look and see if it's popping out of the track. Replace the regulator if it is.

I'd replace the motor while you're down there. If you're gonna go through all that trouble over a regulator might as well swap the motor since those tend to fail (I've had to replace two of mine). On the plus side the regulators usually sell with the motors (that's how I bought mine) costs about $50 and an hour and a half per door for labor.
