Gearbox failure? Help??
Gearbox failure? Help??
Hi,
Wondering if anyone here can help! My car lost all drive one night on way home. She's a 1997 EK3 1590cc CVT Auto. It started to slip 10 mins before it finally went that's the only warning I got!
As far as I can see all gears select D,S,L including reverse park and neutral! The selector on the dash blinks to indicate a fault! Yet starts first time on the button!
Driveshaft axels are both in place and the CV Boots look untouched! Yet there's slightplay in both, they move side to side about 50mm from hub to gearbox! (without the car being jacked up!) But everything seems in place! Am I missing something...
New box or have the drive axels come loose?
All fluids are still as normal, serviced regularly! She's only done 65k
Anyone shed any light?*
Solenoid?
Clutching straws!
Any help greatly appreciated

Re: Gearbox failure? Help??
Should there be any play at all in the driveshafts??
Shouldn't the CV joints be rock solid? Against the hub to the gearbox, as said I am able to wiggle them less than 50mm left to right Both sides!but there is a noticable click! Driver and passenger axels....

Re: Gearbox failure? Help??
its hard to guess, but i would say its a trans problem not axles. either the trans is totally dead or the belt fell off or something small broke. is the engine light on? have the code checked if you have a code reader (OBDII). and i dont know the D indicator faults for your car, but that will also tell you something about the trans. you need to find a service manual to look it up. i think depending on the number of blinks.
Re: Gearbox failure? Help??
It sounded as though a belt snapped when it let go, no engine light just flashing D on the dash! no matter what gear is selected, it gave no sign prior to this at all, the blinking light came on a day or so later when I went back to the car to have a look round! I steered full lock left to right, with it in drive the gearbox squeaked and whined and then the D started to flash!
I'd say pulley belt on input / output shaft, is this an easy fix? Does anyone know? Or is it a recon box needed
Cheers for the advice btw
