Overheating

My 2000 LX has been overheating for a few years now. I had my timing belt and water pump changed but it was still doing it. I had the thermostat and sensors changed and it still did it!

We decided to rig the radiator fan to run at all times. Stupidly, we used the fan relay slot for a power source and it popped the fuse under the dash and the A/C and radiator fan stopped working.

What's a better power source for the fan?

Re: Overheating

running the fan will not fix overheating. the fan is only useful when the car is at idle to drop the temp a few degrees when the engine is running normally. there are many things it could be but start with a honda thermostat and radiator cap. then go from there. could be a clog in the cooling system, heater core, or air in the system.

Re: Overheating

Demanding an answer will get you nowhere. Gearbox gave you a great place to start which is the most cost effective. And turbo asked a very valid question. Techs have to go through the same troubleshooting and even if you were to bring it to a shop, you'd still go through the same process. It could be a bad radiator, bad cap, basically all the stuff said earlier. There's just too much it can be as these symptoms can be caused by a number of things. As for the power source, you're just putting a bandage over the problem and not fixing anything.

Re: Overheating

the reason i asked was because if it was losing or using water it could be a leaking radiator (like melj said) or a head gasket or a clogged radiator

Re: Overheating

You can jump the fan in the relay socket...you just picked the wrong power supply line. It is not going to solve your problem though......
