d16y8 engine

Hey ya'll. I just bought a 98 civic ex with the vtec, manual tranny. It was ran with no oil and it needs to be replaced or rebuilt. I've rebuilt engines before but not one that has been ran with no oil, so (dont bother offering swaps), question is,
which year model engines will fit?
does an engine from an automatic need to be tuned to a manual? will it plug into cpu?
could i take a d16y7 short block and mount the y8 head on it?
will an older 1.6 (OBD1) work in this OBD2?

please help on these issues. and if anybody has one for sale, let me know.

THANKS!

Re: d16y8 engine

the d16z6 would work but you have to get obd1 computer and harness but you could rebuild that motor , if you did you would have to get the block bored or sleeved (the machine shop would let you know how much it would need to be bored) , then i would have the head reworked also , and if it has a hole in the block you could just forget about it

i was told that the z6 would fit int here but I wouldn't have a crank sensor. but as far as an engine that has been paired with an auto or manual tranny, would they have different bell houseings?

I know for sure that you can use any 1996-2000 d16 engine block.
The y8, y7 are the heads and yes, they can be swapped.
You can use a d16y8 from an automatic with no problems as long as you don't use the auto intake manifold. Reason for that is that the manual has different iacv from the automatic.
Of and don't forget to use the manual flywheel (including the longer bolts that it comes with) and not the automatic one.
