'96 Civic Cx with acceleration/idling/mileage issues needs help!
After an evening of reading here on the forum I thought I should post the symptoms I've been having with my '96 Civic Cx Hatchback. Maybe somebody has had similar problems. I appreciate any advice, and thank you for any responses I may recieve.
About a month ago I noticed the car started to have problems accelerating from a stop. At low rpm's it would hesitate, almost bog out, then a few seconds later over accelerate in response to the gas pedal calling for more speed. I thought it might be due to the extreme cold spell (-30Celcius). The car started just fine so I thought I'd wait to see if the problem "went away" when the weather got better. Since the acceleration issues started the fuel economy has dropped dramatically.
Now the weather is around freezing. The car is having troubles starting and the idling is so low it nearly stalls, with the engine warm or cold. The idling is also rough and the exhast seems to smell "stronger". When I give it gas, she'll sometimes stall.
I believe the engine is a D16y7, 4 cyl 1.6L. It has ~340km's now and no maintenance other than regular oil & filter changes. (Guess I deserve a poorly running car.) I've owned it for about 5 years, put ~150K on it and up till now it has run flawless.
Any troubleshooting suggestions?

Re: '96 Civic Cx with acceleration/idling/mileage issues needs help!
Last suspected tune up would have been prior to 5 years past. Spark plugs & wires probably are original. Air filer cleaning is usually annual, it is a (K&N filter). Fuel filter has probably never been changed. I figure I'll start by doing all the standard maintenance things you have listed. Guess I'll have to in order to eliminate: dirty throttle bodies, vacuum leaks, difficient IACV, poor ingnition coils, disributor cap & rotor?
Thanks!
Thanks!
