coolant leak near crankshaft pulley
coolant leak near crankshaft pulley
Here's a pic of the leak. The coolant drip can be seen (greenish). It's been leaking throughout the night for over 8 hours now. The coolant reservoir has dropped about 3 cm since I topped it up last night 8 hours ago. Stayed put in the garage for the 8 hours. Appreciate any advise. Thanks.

If it`s before 2001,and maybe after, your water pump is in the timing belt cover right above it.Most people do the pump with timing belt at around
100K.I still have the original water pump @ 240K,cause the packing felt fine, but I knew I was taking a gamble. How many miles on car?

Thanks for the replies. Engine oil looks good no coolant mix inside. Its a 97 Civic LX. Mileage is 315 K. If its the waterpump how many hours of labour do you think it takes. Looks like a big job to me. And any idea what a waterpump cost is in USD? Thanks.
Re: coolant leak near crankshaft pulley
I`m wondering at that many miles, you should have had 3 timing belts put on.When you get into the timing belt,it drives the water pump, and should have been replaced,I`m assuming it had high miles when you got it,and you don`t know the history?1st timing belt I put on(has to come off to get to water pump)took me 7 hours, got it 1 tooth off, next time took 4 hrs.
If you had it done,in US dollars,I`d guess 4 hrs @ $75 a hour, just a guess. You can get a pump at Advance Auto for $25,the last time I checked, probally $60 for Honda pump. You would also replace the belt, and the same labor inclusive, and $40 for the belt.I`d say to have it done,if no more issues, about $450.
Everything has to come off,tire,motor mount(top&bottom)finder liner,alternator,AC pump,belt idler,valve cover,timing cover,lower front plastic panel,maybe power steering pump,it`s a PITA !!
If you try it yourself,get a good repair manual,I have a Haynes,and it`s just fair,I think.
Good Luck,Dizz
