Air coolant, check engine light came. Honda Civic '03 lx
Air coolant, check engine light came. Honda Civic '03 lx
Hey guys so about a month ago I was driving and noticed that my Honda was heating up. I pulled to the side and let it cool for a bit. As I got home i looked around for any coolant leaks and didn't noticed any. I than thought it might be simply not enough coolant, I added some. I than drove the car around to test it and noticed the needle would fluctuate and when it was all the way up to H I turned the a/c on and gauge would go down. I than changed the thersmostat, yes I put it the new one the exact same way I took the old one out, I than poured a bit more coolant till it was full, bled the coolant system out (radiation cap off) but I didn't have the hot air on while doing this. After I bled the coolant system I drove the car for another test drive and it seemed fine till I got hit with the check engine light. Car still heats up here and there, but it'll go back down on its own for the most part. Any help? Any suggestions

When you'd open the radiator cap after the engine cooled completely would any air come out? Can you see any discoloration or dirt in the coolant?

The code could be the result of what's been happening with the overheat and low coolant, and it could be anything in your list.
I'd start with a visual to check for external coolant leaks, then do my usual tests to determine if the head gasket has been breached and is the cause of the coolant loss. Then plan my next move after seeing the results of those.
