97 Civic DX door beep problem

Whenever I open the door to my civic, the door beep thing goes off, regardless of whether or not the key is in the ignition, is this normal? I can't seem to find any dead fuses, or anything. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Allllright... thanks Captain Obvious. Any ideas what? I'm a hardware technician and I'm usually pretty good at fixing these things, but I can't find where the noise is even coming from under the dash. This car is new to me, it was a gift from my mother-in-law (honestly she just wanted it out of her yard so she didn't look white trash).

It is probably your key cylinder/switch is sticking. My friend ahd the same problem in his nissan. You could take the steering column apart and find the culprit or just disable the buzzer. Personally I would find the real culprit.

Re: 97 Civic DX door beep problem

same happens on our old accord. its the lock cylinder sticking. usually i can take the key and tap the outside around the keyhole a few times and it will pop back out and the beeping stops. just try banging around the key hole til you hear a click. i dont feel like fixing cause then we need new keys for everything. its easier to just give it a few taps.

I'll probably follow the previous thread that was posted up, but I was also thinking maybe a rubber mallet would work like what you described. not really into needless keying of the car if i don't have to. =)
