I've found a new autoshop that knows Civics, and I think I'm going to to stick with them. I went in to get a quote for a timing belt change, and the guys behind the counter suggested it would be best to do a tune up as well. So I got them to write up a quote for everything.
Here's what it looks like.

I would do the spark plugs, wire set, distributer cap, distributer rotor myself. It sounds like he is overcharging you pretty good for the parts. I mean, spark plug wire set shouldnt be much more than 60, especially for a 4 cylinder. Get some prices from auto parts stores before you commit. Spark plugs shouldnt be more than 45?? Thats ridiculous. He is getting the parts from the same place you will be.

prices dont sound bad to me, we all know shops jack up the price on parts, thats another way they make money, all shops do that. labor prices for the timing belt seem resonable, especially if youve found a shop that does quality work that you trust...just my opionion. I paid a honda dealer $1100 to do a timing belt and brakes, I know I probably got riped, but didnt have the time or place to do it myself........

I take some of that back, that is pricey for plugs, and you can replace them yourself in 10 min.

Ya figured they'd be making some profit of the parts.
The only thing that does seem a bit over priced is spark plugs. They’re Denzo platinum, if that means anything, I did ask the shop to set me up with the better end parts.

One of my headlights was also out so I got them to order a set of piaa hyper yellow bulbs for $50? (any opions on those?)

But in my conclusion, I’ve learned that I sleep better knowing I’ve gone to a shop that’s trust worthy and that im not getting just generic parts, even if that means paying a bit more.
I used to own a Jetta, and I kept switching from shop to shop, cause either their service would suck, or they would try and sell me into some BS part that I "NEEDED." I have endless horror stories that all could have been avoided if I just dished out an extra $50. I'm sure, but I cant prove it, that I’ve been ripped off in the past. Its a "buyer beware" market, as for this shop I’ve heard nothing but great reviews through word of mouth and BBB, the staff isn't just a bunch of high school kids, they were all fairly knowledgeable, and they had a bunch of tuned up civics parked out front.

I'm not a complete noob lol, i just rather hear what you guys think.

Go buy yourself a set of NGK Iridiums for 45 dollars. They are better plugs than the Platinums and they are cheaper. It takes 10 minutes to change them. The only important thing is when you change them the engine must be completly cool. Spark plug wires are also very easy, just make sure you do them one at a time. You can pick up a set of plug wires for around 40-50 bucks and they take about 10 minutes to change. Little things like that add up very quickly. Take it to the shop and tell them to do the timing belt and all other related things, do the rest yourself. As far as cap and rotor you can probably pick up both of them for 15 dollars.! Don't get ripped off, things like this a lot of shops mark up because they see it as a quick opportunity to make good money off people who just don't know better.

Good luck.. Ultimately you do whatever you are comfortable with!! It does not hurt to learn how to do little things like that so next time you have to do it, it goes a lot quicker.
