Heat Shield Removal?
Hi!
Last week I noticed a tinny noise when I accelerated - figured something was coming loose with the exhaust, and yesterday I head something dragging and it appears to be the heat shield for the catalytic converter (the front end of the shield came off, the back is still attached). I've got a 1997 Civic EX (Auto) - I called a mechanic and he said it's cool to just pull it off and not replace it - just to be sure not to park in a gigantic pile of dead leaves (which I'm not planning on doing). I need to bring it in somewhere since I don't have access to a lift or blocks to raise the car and do it myself.
Is this safe? Should I replace the cover? The converter seems to be fine - no check engine lights or issues with the performance of the car....
Any input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!
