Rep Power: 0 How strong does and alternator need to be for this?
Hey guys,
Well after hearing a strange squeeling noise under my hood, I think I am hitting my alternator too hard. Can anyone recommend what high output alternator would be good for this setup?
(2) - 800 Watt Fosgate Amps (I think)
(2) - 10" JL Audio Subs
Underbody Neon Kit (StreetGlow Gold Series)
(2) sets of mini strobs (front and rear of car)
Colored fog lights in front
(5) Assorted Neons in car (2 - 5", 1 - 10", 2 - 9")
Reverse indiglo guage faces
(3) 2 1/4 AC mini guages (reverse indiglo)
**Anyway, I noticed that after awhile with all these additions, when I am sittinmg idle up to about 1.5k RPM's, there is this whining sound coming from under the hood. IF I turn my steering wheel it goes away. Or if I rev the engine or start moving (obviously producing more RPM's) From the searches I have done it sounds like the alternator can't take it. Anyone got a good replacement in mind for what I am running?
BTW even with everything on, and my stereo bumping as hard as it can, the lights will not even flicker a little. Also all my neons are on switches, so they are only on when I toggle them . Same with the strobes.

Rep Power: 304 I would post again in vehicle issues....that load is fine for your stock alternator....we have members pushing almost 3,000 watts on the stock one with no probs. I'm almost positive thats not a problem caused by the alternator/stereo.
My guess would be you need a new belt somewhere, or add more power steering fluid, but I couldent tell ya without hearing it. Sounds more like a belt issue though. Post in Vehicle Issues.
