'01 Civic Intermittent Battery Charging
'01 Civic Intermittent Battery Charging
I have an issue that maybe somebody has had some experience with.
Intermittently, my battery dies. When checking voltage while running it is obvious that the alternator is not charging (I read 12.4V at the battery). Then after mucking(touching the wires) around the alternator and almost burning myself on headers/manifold suddenly I read a healthy 14.2-14.4V at the battery.
It seems to me that there must be a loose connection in or around the alternator. It is especially annoying to me since it is all under wire covers or hidden within black connector cases.
Any suggestions?

Re: '01 Civic Intermittent Battery Charging
Turns out that indeed it was a 7 year old battery and replacing it worked like a charm. I think that once a battery gets really old, it has an incredible lack of capacity.
It tested as having only 150 cold cranking amps at the local auto store. My only concern before replacing it was whether the alternator was working or not.
