hello.

i have tried making a false floor setup with amp under the floor like Blk4blk2k1 and other members. however i tried using the stock floor as the top floor. it didnt turn out too good. with the stock floor raised, it is not big enough and leaves huge gaps all around. not only that but the carpet is also bigger then the stock floor so on the edges the carpet flip flops around.

i need someone to send me maybe a traced drawing or a template of some kind so that i can make a new floor out of some nice MDF and have it carpeted and flushy sitting so it covers all gaps, hence giving that stock appearence.

i have already PM Blk4blk2k1, but he hasnt been on for awhile so i just wanted to ask if anyone else could help me out.

so maybe someone with this setup can take out their floor and trace it on a big peice of paper and mail it to me
* you dont even have to trace the entire floor just half!

Just use the carpet piece from the existing floor and trace it out on a peice of 1/2" fiberboard. I did a whole custome trunk floor like this. Only problem is that you have to hinge both flaps on the sides of the cutout in order for it to slide into your trunk. Cover it with black Harley vinyl like me and your trunk looks sweet a$$!!!

i also plan on cutting mine straight down the center into two peices too so i can keep the flaps solid. the way i have it now is the floor is cut straight down the center and its hindged together.

When you made your template off the existing floor cover.....were the gaps that it creates even all around the edges? or are they bigger in some spots and smaller in others? if the gaps are equal around i'd just guestimate, like make your template an inch larger all around, or whatever you do when you cut out your false floor, better to make it larger sized at first because you can always cut away more, making it too small willl mean having to deal with the gaps or start all over

yeah mines even on all sides. i could just guesstimate but i think that would be my last alternative becase that is very time consuming to get right.

blk4blk2k1 is working on getting me some kind of template, that should help me out BIG TIME! thankz again to blk4blk

another easy way to make a template for me is to get fairly big peices of paper *size taht is big enuff to do the width of half the floor.
and trace out the floor in maybe 3 or 4 sections.
example : bottom middle top.
that would make it easier to mail to me then i can just tape it together to get the full template.

i highy reccommend agasint doing a 2 piece design, heres why:

a 2 piece design will have a fatty seam down the center. not very good looking when your focus is down teh center!
it furthermore complicates matters when you try to make the cover for the center, assuming you do a flase floor stealth system, as the pieces may not line up well.

that said, I would recocmmend a 3 piece design. with a large square piece from the front of yrou trunk to the rear, and extending as far as possible to each side, you ensure the maximum amount of clean clear space. the center is wide open for viewing, and is still easily removable. 2 seams is beteer htan one seam, if the two are located out of the focus of the box!

NOW: how to get teh trunk floor layout? unfortunately, what works for one guy might not work for you! why? he might have rasied his floor 2 inches, another guy (liek this wrx) 5 inches up, and mayb eyou wanna go up 3 inches. its gonna be different every time!

so check it out, now you have a giant square in yrou trunk, and open sides. how to you get the layout for the sides? grab a piece of any sort of board scrap you have lying around. I usually use the old floor, and in this case works wonderfully. set it on top of your floor piece, so it sits approximately at the level of yoru new floor. slide it as far into place as you can.

now take some corrugated cardboard, or posterboard, and cut it into 2" strips or so. size isnt realyly key here.

now take them one by one, and use then to fit the contours of yrou trunk wall! once in position, staplegun them to the board you have resting in there.

once you have the side sufficiently covered, simply remov eyour pressboard, and you have a perfect model of yoru sides.

then you can cut a board that size to match, and add a post for it to rest on when it is in place in the car, that will let it rest level with the center square piece.

do this to both sides, and yrou set!

NOW how to hinge them? when you do yrou carpet job, the carpet itself is the hinge! when you put it in the car, simply fold the two sides so they are resting on top, the center board slides right in. once in, you cna take the two sides, one by one, and fold them down, then smooth out the crease best you can.

this might be an optional step, you might not have a trim piece, and opt to have the top of the box AS the focus, here we built a trim piece. this is the step to which we add it:

this demonstrates perfectly the seams to the sides, rather than a giant seam right down the center of yrou focus. here you can see that even if there is a seam we cant iron out, that it will still be out of focus, and most likely go unnoticed.

then you add yoru top, with holes cut in it, naturally, and voila! you have yoruself a 100% absolutely perfectly usable trunk, to which noone would be the wiser of when you pop the trunk..... till you lift up the center floorboard, and show off the tricked out install underneath

heres a picture of how i have it now. i am also keeping my spare tire. i get what u are saying about making the template, good tips. i will have to do that if nobodie can come thru with a template.

my floor is raised 4 inches.

but my amp is on the side.. so i would want to keep the seems on the opposite side of were the visual focus is rite?

might have problems getting it in there if only one side is cut.

but if you can do it with only one seam, then more power to ya!
