Question looking for "automotive diodes"

Anyone know where (local preferred in CA) I can get some kind of automotive diodes? I need something that will allow one-way current flow. I bought some of those 6amp diodes for power supplies from radioshack, but they give me this huge voltage drop for some reason. any help will be appreciated. Thx

Use a 1 watt diode if the current is lower than that.

Radioshack, by the N4001 (I think that is the right number) It is the lowest rated diode they carry.

Like a buck for 2.

you'll probably need a to-220 package diode...and they aint cheap if you buy it at radioshack...ask for samples from electronics company...or distributors like digikey or something...mind you you'll need to heat sink it somehow and it'll probably take a long time for those samples but at least they'll give you half a dozen of those components for free

i might check out yrou local electronics warehouse, walk in and say "i need a 6 amp diode that has less voltage drop than (insert yrou current voltage drop here)" you might have to explain what yoru doing, too, but if radioshack doesnt have the part you are looking for, an electronics supplier will.

If you are willing ot take a drive, check out Quement Electronics on Bascom Avenue in San Jose. I bought my 12 volt powersupply from them among a myriad of other products. they are extreemly helpful and extreemely knowledgeable about anything electronics, and would, without doubt have exactly what you are looking for.

google is your friend.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TO220

search digikey for to-220 diode. they have some that go well beyond 10A. a 0.7v drop is normal for a diode. i hope that's not what you consider "huge."
