Solder or Crimp?

When wiring audio (amp, hu, etc) is it better to crimp or solder the wires? I really never seen professional shops solder wires... anyway.. thanks for your input.

I would recommend soldering the wires. The reason I say that is because soldering the wires guarantees that the wires will never come undone. When crimping them, there is always the possibility of the wires coming apart. The professionals crimp the wires so they can get them done quicker, so I would just take the extra time and solder the wires to ensure that they will never seperate.

Is that the only reason? Cause my crimping is pretty damn reliable. I thought maybe it would have to do something with sound quality or something? Someone shed some light on that?

Soldering the wires is much more reliable, even if the wires are pulled on - i guarantee if i were to pull on wires that were crimped, they would become unattached at the crimp. On a soldered joint, the connection is actually stronger then the wire, the wire would break before the joint. Things like alarms should always be soldered. Radios arent as important i suppose, you wouldt notice any difference in sound quality. Crimping is a little faster, thats all.

Either one won't make a difference in sound quality. Both will connect the wires and complete the connection from the HU to the speakers the same way. It is just that crimping has the potential to come loose.

If you crimp properly they won't come undone. I can't think of anytime that any of my wires gets tugged on enough to pull them out of their connections

Yeah mine too... i tried undoing a crimp i did cause i spliced the wrong wires, so i pulled and pulled and the wire itself snapped. i have a good crimping tool.

soldering provides less resistance also. A crimp 99% of the time will have more resistance.
