independent oem fog light switch

i have read a post on a diy on having the oem fog light switch independent from the headlight switch when 2k1 civic first came out. I dont know what wire color from the oem fog wiring to be wired to the lighter wiring. I tried to do a search but its futile, maybe the diy was erased from the site.

I just want my fog light to turn on whenever i want, not worrying about the fog lights turning off when i hit the high beams. I hope anyone can help.... thanks

you can just make it a fully independant circuit. install yrou switch anywhere, ground one side, and run the other wire through the firewall.

your foglights have 2 wires each, ground one each.

now you need a relay. there will be a diagram on the side, showing a coil and a 3 prong switch.

the coil has 2 leads, hook your switch lead to one elnd, and grab a wire from the battery (positive feed) to hook to the other side of the coil. every time you flick the switch ot the on position, the relay will click. thats how you will nkow you did it right. make sure that when the switch is off, the relay is off! when you wire the battery, you hook teh positive wire to TWO relay poitions. one is the coil, the other is teh center pole on teh switch. you cna tell its the center cuase on the picture its the one in the middle. as if the line coming out were a knife switch that you could move between the opposite two sides. anyways, teh one side that isnt currently connected non the pic, thats what you hook both leads from the foglights to.

there will never be a spark when you hook any wires up, so if you see one, thats a good indicator you didnt pick the right lead!

the center lead on teh relay is unused, only the 4 outer ones. so thats alright..

and youll notice that when the switch is in teh desired on position, the lights are on, and when off....they are off

dont forget to turn them off when you get out the car, or else youll have one dead battery the next morning!
