Im really pissed off. After my JL XR mids stopped worked a month ago, I sent them back to the seller and they replaced them saying they were defective. So I just got my new replacement mids in the mail and I just finished installling them today. I go out for a drive and the mid on the passenger side stops working for no damned reason. I had the music up loud, but on my ZX6000 I only have the level half way up and the music didn't sound distorted at all. I had the HPF on my HU @ 80Hz. I take out the speaker thinking it was a loose wire, but when I take it out, everything is in tact and the magnet is very hot. On both of my speakers, I have two plastic bags that I rigged up to go around them so no moisture gets to them, if that even makes a difference. What the hell went wrong now? I only have one mid now and I guarantee you it will eventually go out. Do I have another freaken defective speaker? This is really starting to **** me off.

I'm still thinking you're clipping them, distorting them, or overpowering them.
according to JL's site, they are only rated for 70w rms. and that hifonics amp i guarantee is putting out much more power than 150 watts.

I hear no distortion though when im listening to them. The level is only half way up. I just turned the level down even more now, around 1/4 of the way up now so I don't blow the other speaker, if it was even blown. I find it hard to believe that they could blow out. I had my original set of XR mids a little more than half-way up and they lasted several weeks before they stopped working and I listened to them just as loud.
lots of heat? then yoru woofer is undergoing thermal failure.
which means:
#1 you are playing distortion
#2 you are playing too much power
#3 you are playing too much distortion too loud with too much power.
its not very likely that JL sent you two woofers with malfunctioning cooling systems
but something vertainly doesnt add up. we arent getting the whole picture, there are other possibilities.
maybe your speaker is getting full range some how, or your music has alott of inherrent distortion, etc etc.
theres no way we cna diagnose yoru problem, at this point
jsut not enough info
