Nak has had a bad time lately with their decks crapping out, especially the 45Z. Tons of the refurb units have been turning up on Ebay. Not sure if the 700 was having as much trouble. I was looking at some CES 2003 pics and it looks like NAK is coming out with more HU's. I thought they were getting out of mobile audio but I guess not.

Pioneer DEX-P9 head unit with the Pioneer DEQ-P9, Focal Utopias in kick panels, ID sub, and Zapco amps!
If all connections are correct and placement and tuning is right, you can't go wrong...trust me

also slick, the worst move someone could ever make is to buy all of that high end equipment and do the install themselves. it takes years of experience and hours of tuning to make it sound right. have a professional do it...

well, my uncle wants this local shop to install the sub, he wants a custom job for the sub, something that looks integrated into the trunk. the fatmat and speaker install should be fairly easy, i think he can manage that. the headunit might also need some custom work, he will probably have the shop do a custom install on that to, he wants it to also have an integrated look. as far as the amps go, i dont know what he wants to do, maybe the back seat mount or something. he says he doesn't want anything that looks flashy, but he changes his mind every 10 seconds so i'm not sure what he will do at the end. he knows his limits, if it gets to be too much for him, or if he does it, and doesn't like the way it turned out, he will get a pro to do it.

it's not so much where the amps and subs are installed but how they are. tuning is the most important part of any install. also, placement of the front speakers and wiring...pay the extra money and have a professional do it. is he getting any type of equalizer and crossover? without networking, the system will just sound flat...

never thought of an EQ or X-over, i'll have to run that by my uncle, i'm sure he'll want both. got any recommendations for a good EQ and X-over? if he does decide to get them, then i'm sure he'll get the shop to tune it, that will end up being far to complicated for him to want to mess with.

Oh, so many choices here. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Combination units (X-over and EQ)

1. Alpine PXA-H900/ PXA-H700 (coming soon)
2. Pioneer DEQ-P9 (to be used with the Pioneer DEX-P9 deck)
3. Sony XDP-4000x (to be used with the Sony CDX-C90)

Not so available combination units
1. Clarion ADCS-1 (old school piece and really tweaky)
2. Pioneer ODR (optical/digital reference series)

The list for stand alone crossovers and eq's is very long. In this case, since your uncle won't be doing any of the tuning, I would suggest going with a brand that the dealer carries. That way, the dealer knows how to operate the product and get the most from it.

Lastly, I am with HondaSales on this one. The greatest gear in the world will not do any good if it is installed poorly. If there is any doubt, best to have the system professionally done. You'll be happy you did!

i agree with you on every point there except the wiring. If this was home audio, i'd tell him to wear rubber gloves and all that crap so his wires were damn perfect, but the problem with car's is that the noise floor is so high, also the amount of electrical interference. its basically impossible to get rid of it all.
