I know this is ICE, but I need some quick help.

I just installed my 2nd JL 500/1....I now have a 500/1 going to each 12W3v2....anyway, I used a multi-meter to adjust the gains the same.....now I get this loud loud crack from the cone when the bass hits and the volume is up high......I am pretty sure this is because my gains are too high, but I just wanted to make sure before I get the multi-meter out and take another 40 minutes getting them perfectly aligned....some quick help would be great.

Thanks,
Mystic3030

try lowering the "bass boost" conrtol (i have it on my Rockford amp). The amp was cutting out so I lowered the "punch bass" and kept the gain up. No problems ever since.

JohnDoe is an unknown quantity at this point
it's definetly the gain is too high, you're clipping. do this:

Turn the gain on the amp all the way down then go to your HU and turn it up as loud as you can before you hear distortion. (if you don't get to a point with distortion congradulations, you have a nice HU) once you've found that level turn it down just below the level that it distorts at (or leave it all the way up if no distorion). Then go to the amp and turn the gain up on them till you hear distortion.. then turn the gain down just a tad from that. congradulations you now have proper system structure.

Also: clipping happens because the amp is trying to out out more power than it has so you might be sucking too much power out. Consider a capacitor. A friend of mine had a similar problem and when he added the cap it fixed it.

40 mins? are you using a constant test tone? we matched 16 BD1500's in minutes.

I have a Phoenix Gold 1 Fard Cap....and it's definately not clipping....I have two 12W3v2's...Peak of 300 watts...and I have two JL Audio 500/1's....It's sending 500 watts to each sub....My voltage is staying at about 11.58....I'll try resetting the gains a little....thanks.
