sub enclosure
sub enclosure
I've seen a few people on this site with the subs inside where the spare tire would go, but what I wanna know is, is it worth it, will it sound good there, what is the max size sub I could pop in there?????????????It's too cold in CT to go measuring so I'm gonna do it in Spring, but I would appreciate if you guys would hit me back with some answers thx guys!
The sound isn't any different than having a box on top of your trunk floor (or at least I can't tell the difference). It is only worth it if you value your trunk space. It is a little pricy cause its a custom job. You can fit as large of a sub as you want there. If the sub is deeper than the depth of the well then you'll have to raise that trunk floor to match it but other than that you should be good.

pricey? hell naw... cost me 28 bucks to do... you could fit whatever size you want in there, i have 2 12's with .85cf of airspace for each... with fiberglass, you could do a LOT more airspace
You should have plenty of volume for most subs, but depending on the mounting depth and pole vent clearance, you might need to build a false floor. Also, you will probably get better results firing the driver toward the rear, but I have a hatch so I'm not positive, just telling you from what I have read.
There is a sound difference when the subs are placed in the wheel well, but it depends on what kind of system you are looking to design. Subs in a box fired back at the trunk are going to give you more spl then one firing up from the floor. If you are looking for bass that crushes you then I would stick with the subs in a box facing the rear. If you are looking for a cleaner bass with less trunk rattle then build them into the wheel well. Right now mine are in the wheel well and I lost about 6dB when I did it. The box spec is perfect too, its just the way sound travels thru the car. In the spring I am ripping out my fiber glass install and starting over with the subs facing the rear again.
i must admit, when we moved the shiva from an mdf box rearfacing to a spare well box facing up and back instead of just back, it changed the sound greatly in my buddies 6th gen civic HX. i dont like it, but teh box looks alot better now. and he LOVES it, so in teh end, our mission was quite sucessful.

Not much in there yet, still working on the outside of the car (cosmetic) and planning the system. We keep switching equipment! Pioneer Premier DEX/DEQ-P9 combo looks definite, Optima yellow top, Stinger Expert Series all around (overkill I know, but it looks damn good!) alternator upgrade (going to see Dominic after the holidays) and at this point either all JL Audio speakers, subs, and amps or MB Quart speakers, subs and U.S.Amps. My trunk will be left completely functional, no sound system stuff back there at all. This is still my daily driver and I want the trunck as is for the spare and simply for the room. The rear deck will be almost completely cut out and replaced with a fiberglass one. All SQ listening will be handle completely by the front stage including either a single sub upfront or 8" subs in the doors (completely fabricated door panels). The subs in the back seat area (along with all amps) will be simply for WOW factor and to have fun. Four 12's (if MB Quart) or two 13W7's if JL. It's a slow (and expensive) process as you well know but will be a blast when finished. Kickpanels for a 6.5 comp set will be first. I'd like to have dual 6.5's in the doors, slightly smaller comp set in the kicks (5.25) and a single sub upfront somewhere but it is looking extremely difficult to work it out with the sub. Center console will be completely fabricated including molding the DEX-P9 remote into the center console. Sounds great to talk about it but I am going nuts wanting to get it done. I'm in this totally for the fun factor, winning a few contests would certainly be nice but I just want to get in the lanes and party. Been to several major shows over the past few years and you will not find a better buch of folks to hang out with. Can't wait.
Are you the one from www.teamamp.com ? If so, I am the one who emailed you about the Shiva Mark 3 for sale...

or do what I did and lose the rear seat and you have tons of room for amps & subs! Extreme but fun.
