Dumb HU question
If I put a new HU in my ride that's output voltage is twice as much this would mean that I would need to turn down the gain on my amps, right?
In turn would this mean that my amps would be sucking less power from my battery because my gains are turned down a bit lower??

not exactly..power consumptionis related to output..gains make no difference if the outputis the same..however having your gains down low will result in a cleaner more noise resistant signal. All systems have some degree of added noise. With your gains up high your amplifying the signal and the noise so it's more audible in your speakers. With the gains lower..you signal is being amplified less so less ambient noise is amplified so you get a cleaner more noise free sound

Thanks for the replies! I am going to be upgrading from a Kenwoon KDC-319 to an Kenwood Excelon KDC-x549, atleast I think those are the numbers. So I will be going from 2 volts to 3 4.5 volt outputs. As you can tell, I like Kenwood CD players.

2,2 volts still is not a bad thing..depends on how loud you like your music.. turn your volume **** 4/5 of the way and set your gain for as loud as you listen to music and you'll be allright.. if you never crank it.. you can keep the gains down pretty low

Ludlam, My gf is getting it for me for x-mas...and I kinda like the idea of having a dedicated output for my subs
My current head unit is way down on the Kenwood scale, so I wanted to upgrade.
