i looked over my headunit i have the DEH6400 nowi think its easier to do mines then it was to do yours beamer. i shouldnt need a relay.
i think if i keep this button thats on the headunit pushed in (tricking the headunit to thinking the faceplate is still attached) and i keep the gear thing in the open position the headunit will eject and accept CD's.
i will look into this further wen im ready to buy my lcd screen. im probably going to go towards 5.6'' can anyone recommend a good one nicely priced?

Yeah I have a 5.6in tv from www.partsexpress.com it was like 160 and very clear. Make sure the cd will eject with the face still attached. You could do this the hard way or call pioneer. Trust me (pioneer-1-800-421-1404).

if i call that number and say "i have a pioneer DEH6400 headunit, i am doing a custom install and would like to know if the cd will eject even when the faceplate is still on (connection between faceplate and headunit is connected)"
will they give me a straight yes / no answer? cuz most the time the ppl behind these tech help numbers arent even really techs. they just read stuff from the manual.

I spent too much money on my headunit for me to hack it up like that, but I gotta admit, that looks really slick!
I have the motorized Alpine decks.....the ones that are like the LCD screens that fold out...ya know what im talkin bout? (No its not a LCD screen tho...just a HU that does the same thing like the fold out ones)

i soldered in a way taht it didnt solder directy to the main conection points that the faceplate uses to connect to the headunit. so if all fails i just unsolder the wires and the orignal connection points stay untouched and it *should just work like normal again.
More Searching around..
A mobile DVD, CD, MP3 Audio player.. Very Nice for $160.00
but I guess You'd have use this in conjunction with a normal HU because there's no FM/AM radio or amplifed outputs..

is there any switches out there that have 12 connections? becuase the relay u(beamer) made looks kinda "messy". i am tryin to install the headunit inside of the lil slide compartment next to the E-BRAKE. is there any other kind of switch or relay that could be made to fit nicely onto the blank space on the headunit? i want this cuz i want the "switch" near or on the headunit, have it all fit in that lil compartment, and easy enough to use say wen im driving.
hey thanks alot!

hey i just had a quick idea. now the 12 pins taht connect the headunit to the faceplate. im sure only 1 of the pins give the faceplate its power. and the rest are for the buttom presses and functions sent from the faceplate to the headunit.
i was just thinking of maybe making just a single switch from that "power" pin thats on the faceplate to the pin taht is on the headunit. being able to disconnect the power from the faceplate should trick the headunit into thinking that its disconnected!
i will use a volt meter and test it out tommorow morning and i will tell u wassup.

hey i just had another inovative idea. instead me cuttin all those lil holes to mount the faceplate i have thought of a better way!.
what i am gonna do is get a metal hinge like this

and then screw both sides into the headliner (less holes and less sloppy)
and then just attach the face to the metal hinge via double sided tape. i just only hope that it will attach it strong enough for it to not move. what do you think? is that 3M tape really strong? could anyone recommend anything stronger?

yo!!!!.. i have had a major breakthough!!.. well i decided to check each pin connection one by one by disconnecting it while it was playing a CD to see which disconected set of pins (faceplate - headunit) would allow the CD to eject and i have found that it is PIN #2 BOTTOM ROW. so all i have to do is make a single switch for this one pin and the cd will be able to be ejected.
heres the pin list that i know of: ***i forgot to mention i am counting the pins from left to right.***
TOP
#1 - ?
#2 - contrls the green lights (sometimes blue in other models) on the station preset buttons
#3 - ?
#4 - ?
#5 - controls graphic display changes
#6 - ?
BOTTOM
#1 - controls all lights EXCEPT the display
#2 - EJECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#3 - Controls Display ON/OFF
#4 - ?
#5 - Volumn Control
#6 - ?
hey thanks for everyones help!!! hope this helps other users in advance
special thanks to steve beamer!
maybe after its all done me and him can collaborate on a DIY!
