System With Stock HU...

Before I get flamed...I did search for this and got nothing. How tough is it to wire an amp from the stock HU in a 99 EX? I have everything I need except a CD player and it's not in my budget right now. Anyone have suggestions?? Thanks a lot.

I did this on my stock HU in my 2k1 EX, I didn't think it was too difficult, rather time consuming to run the wires, it can be tricky to get the panels off. But I just ran wire from each speaker location back to the amp for speaker level inputs, and then ran wires back to each speakers from the amp. Ran the power wire along the passenger side, the remote power on wire on the drivers side to the fuse box, and the ground to the bolt holding the rear seat in, as mentioned all in the DIY for an amp install. Thats how I did it and its worked great. Good luck!

ya its fairly easy, just a little time consuming. difference between hooking up the stock deck and an aftermarket one is the RCA cables. since theres not RCA output on the stock deck, you either need an amp that has speaker level inputs or a LOC? it converts speaker wire signals to RCA

even if the amp doesnt have speaker level inputs, its not hard at all.
what i did was used speaker wiring harnesses ($5 at circuit city) and a line-output-converter ($40 at same store), then i plugged in the speaker wiring harnesses and re-attached the stock speakers and spliced into the harness to run the lines form the line-output-converters, this way if i ever want i can just unplug the speaker wiring harnesses and plug the original speaker wire back into the stock speakers. i know its a waste but i always like to setup my systems so i can make it stock without havin to re-wire everything...

ive looked there before and thats probably where ill end up buying from. however, im in the process of looking for a new apartment and christmas is coming up so im not looking to buy anything except for what i need right now.

just to make sure...instead of using rca wires, i should wire some speaker wire from the positive and negative poles on the speakers in the car to the funky lookin inputs on the amp, correct?

well hopefully i do...40 bucks isnt that much, but it would definetly be way easier without dealing with that junk. also, someone said to hook the remote wire up to the fuse box...where does it go?? as far as i can remember, the only free slots are like 10-15amp.

I hooked it up to the fuse box, most people (especially if you use RCA wires) will run the remote wire and power wire down the passenger side and the rca's down the drivers side. If you do that, the best way is to tap into the power going to the cigarette lighter/Power outlet. I patched it to the fuse box, I think into the fuse for the power outlet, it just seemed easier to get to for me.

if you are using speaker level inputs, you might not even need the remote wire. some amps have some auto-detect thing where it knows when to turn on whether it be activated by sound or by the speaker levels.

Decamo has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I wouldn't even bother. I hooked up an amp and sub to my stock head unit with speaker level inputs. It sounds like crap.

Spend money on a head unit first.

that fuse box thing shouldnt be to tough then. i just bought a pack of fuse taps, so i dont even need to buy anything yet . i just want some decent bass in my car. i bought these speakers to listen to them...havent heard em in over 4 months and its starting to feel like a waste of money.
