2003 Civic Dash Removal
I have a 2003 civic, it has an updated console and the beverage holder cover. So, to make a long story short, there is no individual piece where the 12v plug in is to just pop off. What is the easiest way to remove the dash to install a new HU in this car? Has anybody tried or know?
Thanks A WHOLE BUNCH,
Eric

I have a 02 so can't be sure about the 03. You will probably have to revmove the console or at least loosen it so it can be slid backward. After that, you will see two 8mm screws/bolts just above the area where the power outlet is. Remove those and then the whole center dash piece (plastic part that houses the hvac controls, stereo, and pocket)has to be popped out. It is held in by clips similar to those found on door panels. People say to use a screwdriver or something to pry the unit outward until you can get your fingers underneath to break it loose.
However, you can reach behind the unit in the area where you took the screws out and push on it from behind. It takes a little muscle but you should be able to release the bottom clips enough to get your fingers in. This eliminates the possiblity of marring the vinyl dash while prying.
Look at the DIY here and it should make things a little clearer. I would think that the only difference would be your console. It's removal shouldn't be much different or too hard to figure out.

You are probably one of the only people with a 03 on the board. I thought you were going to post some pics of the console.
You have a cubby hole that also functions as an armrest right? Well, in the bottom of it there is probably a little door type thing that flips up. Pull that piece up and there should be a couple screws that need to be removed. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you without pics.

I know how...I have an 03 and i am in the process of painting mine right now...ok remove that horseshoe piece that goes around the 12v outlet piece (it pops off...its hard...but it pops off...be careful not to crack it)...and then it is pretty much pull the 12v piece...and it will come off then
after you get that piece off just remove those 2 bolts that are on that metal bracket then reach up under there and pull out on the bracket and you'll have that headunit piece out in no time...its that easy
i'll go look for my dads digital camera and try to do a quick diy... the 03 sedan requires some pulling... you MAY think your breaking something but i havent had crease marks. i'll post it in like an hour.
