Not so Perfect!
I have owned a pair of Infinity perfect 10.1s for about a month and a half now. I replaced my old amp with a JBL 1200.1, which I thought would be ok even with it's power because Infinity uses this amp to power the perfects in their show cars. Well, my sub's voice coils both detached and the pole piece is now visable after a couple days!
I was adjusting the gains on the second day with the amp and I heard this rattling noice that sounded like it was coming from the subs, so I checked and I was very dissapointed in what I saw. I am not sure what to do now? Infinity does not have a car audio e-mail listed on their site, but I have e-mailed onlinecarstereo.com (where i bought the subs). Hopefully they will get replaced.

i've actually heard that happening to more people where the subs fall apart... was the 1200.1 putting a lot of strain on your alternator? i was looking to get one along with a kicker kx600.4 for the mids and highs...

I have the JBL 1200.1 and an MTX 4244 and my car still manages to turn on
I have a digital cap and my voltage always seems to be between 14.4 and 14.7 when the car is running, if that means anything.

The JBL does not have a subsonic filter either, which most good high powered amps tend to have. This could be the problem why my subs blew, because the subs were in a ported box, but it was EXACTLY to infinty's specifications

For some reason I thought I read somewhere that the infinity's were meant for a sealed box, but I could be mistaken. I liked my infinty that I had before (wires touched on the sub and it stopped working) I Just ordered two dual voice 12.1 perfects and the 1200.1 amp which I have heard what most people use to power two of those subs. HOwever mine will be a sealed box.

Gizmo-According to infinty's specifications ported boxes are ok as long as you use a subsonic filter (which I could not find anywhere?)
Go to sound domain and do a title search using either "blown" or "Perfect". Most of the blown topics will be about Perfects or Kicker L7s, and more then half of the topics on "perfect" will be about blown perfect subs. Basically, just make sure that your gains are set way low, and your bass boost too because the jbl may be to much.

I think it is, but this is the max that I have ever seen it read. It usually reads 12.5 volts when the engine is not running and 14.5 or 6 when it is on.

Is there anyway to keep my voltage down? Will a thinner gauge wire or would lowering my gains help? What am I risking by putting out to much voltage?

risking? dead alternator, dead battery, or fried ecu from voltage spikes.... all ugly things
lowering gains doesnt help either... does your HU allow you to control Subwoofer level? because if so, you're only getting max voltage when the level is all teh way up...

Oh, those things don't sound good .
Would my gauge wire make a difference? Should I go to a lower gauge wire? Also, I have an 80 amp fuse on my battery, will that be any help?
Oh, and I found a passive subsonic filter on the Zeb made by harrison labs for 30 dollars! All of the electronic crossovers are over 100 dollars.

Fonto, DO NOT use a lower gauge wire, that will put more strain on your system than anything, not to mention the increased likelyhood of damaging components. IASCA has a set wire gauge chart based on power and length. I suggest you use it. Good luck.
