Plexiglass sub encloser
Hey i made a clear plexiglass sub encloser for 2 jl 10 w6's i got the specs for the box from jl's website i jsut wanted to know how the subs would sound in the encloser casue im pretty far from installing my system thanx
hope your pockets are deep, 1 inch plexi can go for up to and over $75 a square foot
3/4 is around $25 sq foot, if you wanna brace it a bit more......
but for a quality SOUNDING box, 10w6's need some air...... are you sure you want a 100% plexi box? most ppl add a window......

Any amp will do..so long as it's decent quality and puts out close to or slightly above the rated wattage of the subs... rememeber though.. W6's are Dual 6ohm subs. For a pair of them you can get a 6ohm mono load..or a 1.5 ohm load..so make sure the amp your getting can hack it...

JL spec boxes are too small... even the purist boxes have a Q of .8....
combine that with how waves can just bounce off of plexi.......
I predict you are gonna have a very boomy box, unless you underpower those subs, in which case its gonna sound over damped....
but thats just a prediction, you can take that with a grain of salt........

With this heat and humidity here..I'll take that grain of Salt .. if 3/4" plexi or better was used with a center divider it would eb allright..without one the baffle is likely to resonate with lower frequncy notes and cause some cancellation..if Lexan was used.. who cares..if 1" Plexi was used..should be the same as MDF

assumming that the box WILL NOT move one bit, the point i was trying to make was that JL reccommends small boxes. TOO small.
therefore, all teh trouble to make a JL reccommended box might go to waste simply because it would sound really boomy, especially in a box where waves reflect really good inside. plexi doesnt have the same acoustic characteristics as MDF!
and even if teh gains were set too low to sound really boomy, the subs arent pushing to their full capability, and might sound over damped, like too mcuh air pressure pulin the sub back to zero.
even in a perfectly built plexi box, i am doubting the performance of the box, not its ability/inability to flex.

agreed! i predict that it will sound just as good/bad in an MDF box!
so would it be worth it to make it plexi? maybe if it was built out of MDF first to test teh acustic properties....
but im still betting that its gonna be boomy as hell.......

well since both mohawk and whiterabbit seem to hate me i wasnt going to post but i decided to - you can ask me questions if you want - bobby gately makes some awesome plexi boxes, but he also spent $$$$ on the tools. the picture attached is one of his newest
