What's this rattle?
everytime my subs are up loud the back deck where the third brake light is rattles. how can i stop this? is there any easy solution that is inexpensive?
You can take the rear deck out and dynamat the bare metal or put double sided tape on all the areas where the plastic comes into contact with metal, or if you're really lazy and cheap, take some stuffing material, go into the trunk and stuff it into the circular holes near the brake light. Just keep packing it in until the rattling goes away, thats the easiest and cheapest fix.
i have a rattle in my trunk that happens only sometimes. i only hear it at low rpms when i'm accelarating. i thought the stereo was causing the rattle at first but it's not. i think something might be loose in the rear deck area so i'm going to try some stuffing material in there like was suggested above
if it is caused by your rear deck, then its probably caused by your rear deck vibrating against the rear window. to doublecheck this, wedge yoru fingers in there while playing your stereo loud. if it goes away, that was yoru problem
the cheapest way to fix this is to get some cork (free if you or your family or yoru friends are wino's) and stick a couple of wedges in there. that will keep it from vibrating agasint the window.
dynamat will only raise the frequency at which panels resonate. it does not solve rattle. It might also be yoru trunk lid. that is a $3.50 cure with expanding foam, anywhere metal is close enough to metal to rattle.
if its the rear deck rattling with the frame, you will need stuffing between the deck and the metal. something like a towel, anything that will prevent two solid objects from colliding.
