Connecting Tweeters
I have an LX. Hence, no tweeter pods in the mirror caps. I can buy this garnish and fit a tweeter in there. That's not a problem. Question is, how do I connect the tweeter? What do I connect it to? What about a crossover? I sort of have a clue about all of these questions, but I want to make sure that my thinking is correct.

Yes, but do I tap into the wires for the front speakers? I guess I do, but it just seems like that may be too strong a signal for tweeters. How do I prevent blowing out the tweeters? Should I buy ones that have the same rating as my front speakers? Does this work out differently when I hook them up to the same input wires. I think it does, but am unsure of how to calculate that.

i am no audio expert, and i'd like to have someone like mohawkboom confirm this, but i think that you would connect the (either inline or outboard) crossover to the stock wiring for the front channel speakers, then wire the speakers to the low pass output of the crossover (if its an outboard one) and the tweeters to the highpass outputs. usually, the outboard crossovers have voltage/wattage protection circuits for the tweeters so they dont get blown out by the higher RMS thats going to the main speakers.
i hope im giving correct info

Grey..
Okay..I'm assuming you have 2 or 3 way coaxials and your trying to hook up additional tweeters?.. If this is correct your system won;t sound too good. Having tweeters (speaker and seperate tweeter) Mounted more than a few inches from each other will cause alot of frequency cancellation and alot of frequency reinforcement. That won't sound good at all.
If you can. take the tweets back, save a little more nd get the components speakers. Thos ecome with their own crossovers.
Also because the tweeters are 8ohm drivers, they on;y get half the power your amp puts out.
Cheers

Well, the 8Ohm thing helped out. I get it now, more resistence cuts the power usage. I don't have any tweeters yet. I was thinking of getting some, but now that you mention the cancellation issues I don't think I will. Hmm...
Yeah, I guess it doesn't make sense. Oh well...

Save a bit extra get the components.. they will improve midbass, midrange clarity and you'll hve a better sound stage because the tweeter will be mounted higher..

I think Blah was the head honcho of the I.C.E. forum then. I heard from him that I'de like my speakers. I do, but they need an amp...

Pretty much to get really good sound from any speakers a small clean amp is needed. Off HU power you can never expect great sound. good.but not that good .
do i HAVE to have tweeter pods? I have a sedan, and my components came with a bunch of pod looking things that I think i can screw into the door and also hold my tweeter. Are these tweeter pods? any help is appreciated.

Yeah, you basically have to buy the little tweeter pods that come with the EX. They're right where the mirror cap is in the corner of the door. I would get those and mount aftermarket tweeters in them to make for a clean installation. You can mount whatever you'de like to wherever you'de like to, but I would just use the EX pods for a cleaner install. Plus they're kinda in the perfect spot.
I didn't think that there were stock tweeter pods available for us Sedan owners, EX or LX. I think the EX coupe is the ony model to have them. SWK, those things that come with the tweeter are what you would use to connect th tweeters to the door panel or the tweeter pods that you get from teh dealership.

I bought the stock tweeters from Majestic. I also got the pods. I will be mounting them when I get home. They have the inline x-over so I don't have to get one. Do you think I'll have frequency cancellation with them? I don't see why if it works good with the stock system. I have the stock HU and changed my speakers to a pair of Pioneers. I have an 80 x 4 2ohm Crunch amp pushing rears and fronts. I'm gonna tap into the stock wireing to connect the tweeters. I got the Metra speaker harness.
What do you guys think?
