Universal central locking kit for remote boot open

I have a 2001 Honda civic ES1 sedan. I have purchased a universal central locking kit. The car has the factory central locking, however i want to add remote boot open. I am this one works on my phone so no need to carry both remotes. I only want to use the kit for the remote boot open.

I was looking at using a fuse tap to the 20A sunroof fuse as I don’t have a sunroof. (Fuse 7 under dash) Would this be suitable for my needs? I assume it is constant power, that is what I have come across online. What fuse should I put in?

What gauge wire should I be using I was thinking 22AWG?

thanks

Don't know anything about your kit to make any recommendations on wire size. However, fuse should match wire size. 22AWG is good for like ~7 amps, not 20.

Re: Universal central locking kit for remote boot open

What's the rated amp draw of the remote boot kit? Tapping a fuse spot for an accessory you don't have is more than fine, as long as it has constant power to it.

That said, most trunk poppers, if I had to guess, it'll be less than 15A, if not less than 10A. Your best bet is probably going with 14AWG, 16AWG if you manage to use a fairly short length of wire.

here's a good chart to give you guidance. You'll highly likely be dealing with the first two rows, and I'm guessing you're not going to exceed 10 feet of wire

thank you for your reply. The kit sates the working current it 15mA. Wire may be 4 meters long.

22AWG would work fine. Just use a smaller fuse to protect the wiring. Like 5A.
