Doing a bit of custom wiring and am looking for a good lead to tap into. I'm wanting to power a USB plug with two outlets.
What's the best source for a constant hot lead to tap into? I'd like it heavy enough to handle 10-15 amps.
I'm working in the OEM radio area.
Was gonna recommend the same. I tapped the cigarette lighter adapter hot lead when I installed panel-mount USB plugs in my 2002.
Alternatively, you can put a fusetap on #18 in the passenger fuse box. It's for the accessory outlet anyways, and has a 15A fuse installed there from factory.
Thank you both. I have an outlet tapped in there for a keyed hot. I "need" an always hot lead. Part of a android tablet, thermo switch controlled cooling fan system I'm installing.
How about running a wire direct from the battery with an inline fuse? It's not near the stereo, but the firewall penetration for the engine wiring harness is in the passenger footwell and just takes stabbing it with a screwdriver to send wires out of the cabin. I ran a 2AWG through the thing for a stereo system and it still maintained weather resistance.
I used something like one of these (but for top post) for some aux accessories straight from the battery and just used some random closer proximity bolt to ground out the load. Zero issues doing that
I don't know of any easy always hot sources that could supply extra power, I would just tap a new wire straight from battery with an inline fuse (pack of fuse pigtails isn't too much on Amazon), then you know its all good without messing with any other systems.
