I bought a pair of 6.5” Kicker Coaxial speakers and I can’t find a way to mount them in the rear. I have tried to resuse the old speaker’s plastic frame but I can’t get clearance between the screws and the sheet metal for that.
I'm assuming you have a sedan since you're trying to fit 6.5s in the rear deck? Got a picture of what you're running into?
edit: also, is it safe to assume you removed the rear deck plastic in order to install these speakers? I had to do that in my 2002 coupe. I also had to drill out mounting holes and use clip nuts to mount my speakers

With the speaker in place where you want it, mark where the mounting holes for the new speaker are (pencil, center punch, scratch awl, etc). Remove speaker, and drill holes large enough to accommodate the new screw. If you can find a way to make sheet metal screws (or otherwise) bite into and securely hold onto the metal part of the deck, then cool beans, you don't have to worry about getting the clip nuts. Bonus points if one mounting screw hole for the OEM speaker (or if multiple mounting holes) line up with the kicker speaker's mounting holes.
The metal brackets the speakers came with, what do they look like?
