01 civic driver side won't lock

01 civic lx driver door won't lock. The rest of the doors do lock but the driver door won't lock manually or with the remote.

Does the lock **** go down when using the key in door ??

If the drivers door is closed, can you push down the lock **** ??

The **** stays up while the door is open or closed and the door remains unlocked. Even if I turn the key to lock the door from the outside the **** goes down then goes up while I take the key out.

Several possibilities, someone needs to do more inspecting to see what happened.
Sounds like it's time to pull the door panel off to inspect the lock, linkages, and latch.

Maybe a liberal dousing of penetrating oil could help free up stuck parts?

The answer I'm getting from a few places is the actuator. Does this sound like a possible reasoning?

No. Power lock actuators do get slow/weak/quit, and yours may or may not be bad.....

But if I understood correctly you said yours won't work by hand nor with the key --even with the door closed, so yours sounds like a mechanical/physical problem, not electrical.

NOTE: IF you weren't already aware.... The drivers door must be completely closed before you can lock or unlock it.
NOTE2: With the drivers door open, you can pull out on the inside or outside handle and then you should be able to operate the lock mechanisms, manually or power.
This feature is explained somewhere in the owners manual, if you have it.

One guy told me that the actuator shut off and locked up the rest of locking mechanism thus explaining why the rod won't go down

I've seen quite a few of these cars but have not seen one do what you describe there.
That sounds more like something an American car would do.

You could remove the latch from the door, then remove the power lock actuator from the latch, then see if it works.

The electric power lock actuator is available separately from the door latch if you do find it to be faulty.

Honda calls the latch a 'lock' though, and they show it in the catalog with or without the power actuator.
