Frayed Ground Wire

I have a 2004 Civic DX. I've noticed there's a ground wire connecting the chassis (near the top of the radiator) to the top of the engine block. The wire has a braided covering that's frayed all to heck (pictures attached).

I'm having trouble finding a DIY guide for replacing this. It looks like it should be simple enough (basically a couple bolts, just kinda hard to reach the one), but I'm not really sure what to call it to order a replacement part.

Help?

Re: Frayed Ground Wire

you can search for "grounding kit" and see where people have upgraded all the ground wires in the car to 4AWG or 0AWG wiring. If you aren't too concerned about it you can just get some 8AWG wire and a pair of crimp rings and make your own cable to replace it. That should be equivalent to whats there now.

Looks like a copper braid around a center wire.

Re: Frayed Ground Wire

Get a new one from a dealer or old one from a junk yard.

Or stop by a local audio store and have them cut a piece of cable and crimp some ends on it for you. Might be cheaper just to buy a new OE one.

Re: Frayed Ground Wire

Most autoparts stores will have a section or display of battery cables. Besides the battery cables there will be ones with bolt attachments at both ends. Get one that is the same gauge or larger and same length or slightly longer.

+1 to that. I wouldn't call it cheap but it looks good, is relatively inexpensive, and makes more sense than replacing the one part. Gearbox has a good diy that I used. https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...t-ii-pics.html
It took me like 15 minutes to do it.

Re: Frayed Ground Wire

I was thinking of purchasing the same part, #14 in the diagram. However, shipping is a killer on such a small item. Local parts store should have some basic ground cables for less.

CABLE, SUB-GROUND Part Number: 32610-S5A-000
