Battery drain through fuse #9
Battery drain through fuse #9
I have a 2005 civic lx. The battery drains in 1 to 2 days. I have traced it to fuse #9 under(1.5mVolts) the hood. I have ck'd all other fuses and no other drain is obvious. I understand that this fuse also sends power to the radio, immobilizer control unit, data link connector, keyless receiver, gauges/instrument cluster, and multiplex control unit. How do I go about finding the drain? 2 other possible indicators are that the keyless entry will open the doors but will not lock them. and the interior dome light stays on now unless manually shut off. The car had been in an accident/ hood and passenger fender and door. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
I don't get an amp reading through the fuse, but have previously gotten 50 plus mA through disconnected battery ground. When #9 fuse is pulled the dome light on auto door setting goes out, but on full manual setting still will go on.

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
50ma is not really high, may go lower if the micu enters sleep mode.
Is the fluid level in the battery ok ?? (just above plates)
Is it original battery ??
If you pull #9 does the battery stay up ok over couple of days ??

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
The battery was replaced (Interstate) 8 months ago and I ckd the levels, at full. It does have a drivers rear window that does not operate and the auto lock/unlock only works to unlock on the clicker. Or lock/unlock at the drivers door switch. the fuses are ok.
I will try pulling the #9 fuse to see if the battery stays in higher charge.

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
With fuse #9 pulled the battery only drained from12.31volts to 12.22volts in 24 hours and the current draw through disconnected negative battery cable is now .05mA. when #9 fuse is replaced. So what is likely going to sleep when #9 fuse is pulled? And can I test for it?
Thanks for helping me get this far.

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
The micu unit has the low power feature after a certain amount of time with no activity.
Do you have any aftermarket electrical items that have been added ??

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
The Honda is completely stock as far as I know. It had been in an accident, hood and passenger fender, readjustment to the passenger door, but all that seems a good fit now.
Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
I have pulled (1 at a time) all fuses and relays while neg. battery term has a multimeter on mA Only fuse #9 reduces the current draw. Then I see that if a door opens I get an increase of 10mA except at the passenger door. So I assume the pass. door is already draining.
I pull the switch in the door jamb and continuity ck 0.0 Ohms 11.4 DCV, (this is normal)
but with the switch out the battery drain is only .07mA and the dome light and remote lock/unlock works perfectly.
The 1 wire from that door switch (lt grn/red) also goes to a security control unit and front door sw. I don't know where either of these are but I assume the real problem is in sw (switch) or security control. If anyone has further ideas I'll fix all, otherwise I'm only running without the door jamb switch. Thanks

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
So the drain stops with the passenger plunger switch disconnected ?
If you have an EX you may have security.... but you may be onto something if that switch stayed at ground potential it would mess with remote locking.
On my 05 if I left the dome in center, and then opened door(s) and leave open the dome would go off after a while until you closed door.
You can grab those switches at dealer for not much.
Let us know final outcome.

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
It's an LX 4 door sedan. It does have some security system, though in the country, I don't think about it as much. The plunger switch that I removed was a new Honda switch.
Overnite the battery drain has been near nothing. What does the security unit look like?
And is the SW on the electrical diagram an interior door switch?

Re: Battery drain through fuse #9
Factory manual says "front passenger door switch" (wire color LT GRN/RED)
At one time you could get a factory alarm option... thought it was behind the console near the hump but could be way off though.
