Keep blowing small light fuses

Strangest thing happen to me the other day on my 2003 Civic coupe. My taillight, licence plate bulbs burned out. My front marker lights and cluster lights don't work. I had gut feeling that there is a short. I replaced my tailight bulbs figuring it was a long shot and still don't work. I found my small light 15a fuse blown under the hood. I replaced it and tryed my lights again and it blew again. I checked wiring connectors and connections. All the obvious.

Any suggestions? Also does anyone know where the taillight relay is located?

Taillight relay is in the dash fuse box.

You apparently have a short to ground or an excessive load on that circuit. Could be any-freeking-where in the car.

I would first look for any areas that have had human hands in it. Bodyshops are notorious for causing wiring problems either directly or indirectly.

Then I might start trying to isolate areas and sections by splitting the circuit.
I would want some good wiring diagrams.

Unplug all of the lights that don't work. Replace the fuse. Plug them in, one by one, until the fuse blows. That will isolate the problem.

Stock HU...

The taillight relay checked out fine. Also verified the wiring from the relay to the fuse box is good.

It will be hard to do this because my radio and heater control lights don't light up either at night. All the lights that should come on in the first position on the switch don't work.

Re: Keep blowing small light fuses

As mentioned, you have a short circuit...and I'm assuming the fuse opens the second you turn on the lights.

Any body work or mods done to the car ?

The only mods done were the Compustar alarm installed back in 2003.

Any idea what color wire needed to be tapped into for the parking lights??

Re: Keep blowing small light fuses

Update...

I managed to get the lights to work but after driving short distance it popped again. I installed another fuse and the lights work again. I began moving the wiring around under the dash and around the rest of the car to see maybe I have loose connection. Seems fine right now. I will continue to drive it and see what happens. If this proceeds I'm going to disconnect plug the feeds all the lights to the rear which is located on the ps side rear and see if I pop any fuses while driving. Same follows with the front lights..

Re: Keep blowing small light fuses

Just bought an 07 things were good, had a rear spoiler with light put on, tail lights are out and power locks won't work. I have not found any burnt fuses replaced light bulbs and they immediately blew.

If everything worked prior to the spoiler installation, then return to your installer.

It kinda is, in that with the OE accessory spoiler unit, its harness might plug in to the taillight bulb socket connector. Depends on what version you get though. I've seen them connect either that way or directly into the center light harness.

Re: Keep blowing small light fuses

^^^ The oem spoiler for my 05 sedan used the rear deck 3rd light for voltage source...did not know there were other options.

They should certainly have a chat with installer though.
