New head unit, hiss in music

This past week i bought a Pioneer Avic u310bt off eBay and installed it myself. All the connections on the harness are soldered securely. Whenever i turn the volume past a low level i begin to get a hiss in the audio. Any ideas?

Most definitely a wiring problem or fault deck. But more likely wiring problem. Do you have an amp + subs? Is the RCA wire running down the same side as the power cable?

Re: New head unit, hiss in music

I do have an amp and subs, however the hissing was still happening even when the remote wire and rcas were disconnected from the headunit. The hissing did not happen with my kenwood excelon deck with the wires in the same location as they are now. The one thing i am thinking might be the problem is the ground. The harness for the Avic came with a ring terminal for the ground, i cut that off and just soldered it to the ground on the metra harness. Is it possible its not getting sufficient ground?

Re: New head unit, hiss in music

rcas on one side, power/ground on the other. make sure ground is tight and touching bare metal. run new 14 gauge or thicker power wire from the deck directly to the battery with its own fuse. do the same for the deck ground. new ground wire from deck to bare metal. it will sound louder (more power) and should be static free. make sure you dont have cheap hid kit for the headlights. it can cause radio/ecu interference.

Re: New head unit, hiss in music

oh forgot to mention if you use 14 gauge wire, you need a 15 amp fuse located within 12 inches of the battery + terminal on the power wire.

Re: New head unit, hiss in music

Most likely bad ground and/or interference
If you only hear the hiss in AUX, it's most likely interference
