two batteries, help?
hi all, i was a bit lazy here and only dug through one page of search, trying to find out about running two batteries for audio.
this is ghett-oH but i have an older surround sound home audio unit that i want to install in my trunk to listen to when parked.
i found a 200volt inverter from canadiantire that converts 12v dc to 120v ac. i don't really know how the current is affected yet. this device lets you plug a car battery into home devices such as an xbox. how ever, i know audio sucks a huge amount of current.
anyway so i want to get a batterie isolator and run a second battery for when i park the car with it off.
if any of this makes sence please chime in, would i need any upgrades such as a new alternator, in order to charge two batteries? will this even work?
the system supplies 200watts to the sub, and 60 watts to each of the five tweeters, i'm only planning on running two.

Re: two batteries, help?
You don't need to get a second alternator, you just get a relay and switch to allow you to choose which battery to charge. To do it properly though, you'll need to enclose the battery in a sealed case and vent it outside the trunk since batteries produce hydrogen (i think, could be a different gas).
By the time you buy the battery box, mount, wiring, switch, relay and battery you could easily buy a proper and decent quality 10'' sub set-up on craigslist, then buy a good quality battery to replace whatever you currently have and you should be able to listen to it for awhile without draining the battery.

Re: two batteries, help?
regardless i want the system in the back isolated, with no chance of killing my main battery. so it's either buy a new amp, tweeters and sub plus the isolation battery and relay
or
just the relay, battery and $40 inverter and use the system i have. it's sounds fairly good for a 200watt sub.
i just want to know if anyone has experience with the amperage requirments using an inverter.

Pm orgasm_donor on rs, I doubt he deals with inverters often but maybe he can give you a quick bit of advice.
Personally, and this is just my honest opinion not criticism, I would not add a second battery. Your adding a ton of weight and spending a couple hundred dollars to power a lower end system while chillin. I would spend money on the good system lowlife recommended, and add a cheap *** voltage gauge mounted somewhere discrete to monitor the battery and prevent it from dying.
