Question Please help! Battery light issue

Hey everyone, I'll try to explain this the best I can. I have a 93 civic si and the battery light is on and my car dies out within a few blocks of driving. First the cd player cuts out, then all my dash lights dim out and my head lights dim out so much they dont even look like their on. This happened to me a few months ago and I put in a new alt and it seemed to fix the problem until now. Both times that it's happened it's right after driving through a puddle. A tech I work with told me it could be the ecm, so we took it out and it looks just fine. So what could it be?

So you changed the alternator! That's good.. But did you check if your battery if it's still ok? Sometimes changing the battery is a good idea. Lol

And also have you done testing? You know sometimes the new alternator could be difected!!

Re: Please help! Battery light issue

The only battery testing I did was testing the voltage. It reads just over 12 when the cars not running, but when the car is running it drops to just over 11. And is it be just a coinsidence that this has only happened after hitting water?

Have you checked all your grounds? Start with the simple stuff before you go dumping any more money on it. Get the alternator re tested. Your supposed to get between 12-14v depending on what your doing. Something is still going on with your charging system.

Re: Please help! Battery light issue

So it's running off the battery? Are your belts fully tensioned? It's shot in the dark since you went a while without an issue. But the pulleys could be worn or something. I'd go with checking all your grounds to make sure they're all cleaned up so the alternator is working properly. I agree with tbohar. It's better to start with the simple stuff before you start tossing money at a problem.
